Luxurious Face & Body Butter
The winds blow cold in February, and this face and body butter soothes, protects, and moisturizes dry, chapped skin. Look familiar? Aren’t you smart!?! I ran this recipe in 1997 and still get requests for it! So for those of you who don’t save our newsletters in loose-leaf notebooks, here it is again. (Thanks to everyone who does save our newsletters. Makes us feel that we are part of your life and library!) What equipment do you need? A blender, which you can also use for smoothies.
Makes a few cups
| GROUP 1 |
GROUP 2 |
| ¾ cup almond, avocado, grape seed or other wonderful oil |
2/3 cup boiled water, cooled. |
| 1/3 cup coconut oil or cocoa butter |
1/3 cup aloe vera gel |
| 1 teaspoon liquid lanolin, optional |
few drops essential oil of your choice* |
| ½ ounce beeswax |
few drops vitamin E oil |
Melt GROUP 1 over low heat. I have a large oven-proof measuring cup which goes right onto my burner. You can use a small pot or double boiler pot. Leave melted mixture in measuring cup or pot. Cool 5 minutes or to room temperature. Oils will become thick, creamy and semi-solid.
Place GROUP 2 in a blender and blend at highest speed. Drizzle (just like making mayonnaise) GROUP 1 into center vortex. Pour slowly until there is no more GROUP 1 in measuring cup or pot and blender makes a spluttering or coughing sound. At that point, you’ll have a beautiful, thick cream just like magic the same magic that happens when you make homemade mayo!
Using a rubber spatula, spoon face and body cream into small glass jars. The blender will be tough to clean out. Use hands. Lavish the cream over every portion of your face and body. Don’t worry, it’ll soak in. Your skin will thank you!
*We love essential oils! Some enliven, some relax. Open our store testers and sniff. Discover which scents make you feel good…. I like to combine lavender, ylang ylang, clary sage, geranium, rosewood. few drops of rose, if budget allows. All these oils are said to make skin glow. They calm and warm the heart.!
